How to record your video
Thank you for being part of the M&IT Awards! We’d love a short video from you, and this guide will walk you through it. It takes about two minutes, you can record on your phone or laptop, and there’s nothing to download.
Before you start
The recording happens inside your web browser, which means it can struggle if your device is busy. A little preparation makes it much smoother.
Close everything else - Shut any browser tabs and apps you’re not using. Lots of open tabs is the most common reason a recording freezes or fails to upload.
Do it in one go - Set aside a few quiet minutes and record in one sitting. Long gaps between clips can cause problems, so try not to leave the page sitting open while you get on with something else.
Check your connection - Use Wi-Fi or a strong signal if you can. On a phone, hold it upright and steady, ideally with the camera at about eye level.
Know roughly what you’ll say - You don’t need a script. A relaxed, natural answer nearly always comes across better than something rehearsed, so jot down a couple of points and go from there.
Step by step
Open your personal link - Click the link we sent you. It opens in your browser, so you don’t need an account or an app.
Allow camera and microphone access - Your browser will ask for permission to use your camera and microphone. Click “Allow” on both. Nothing is recorded until you press the record button.
Fill in your details - The first screen asks for a few details from you. Fill these in and press the button to continue.
Record your answer - You may see a question prompt, or just be asked to start talking. Press the record button, speak naturally, then press stop when you’re done.
Watch it back and submit - Play your video back. If you’d like another go, choose the te-record option, as many times as you need. When you’re happy, press submit. You’ll see a confirmation message on screen, and that’s it.
What to talk about
Keep it conversational and don’t worry about getting it perfect. We’re after your personality, not a polished performance.
If something goes wrong
Don’t spend ages wrestling with it. If the recording freezes or won’t upload, close your other tabs, refresh the page and try again, which fixes it most of the time.
